Regression and Hypnotherapy: Exploring Every Age

Regression and Hypnotherapy: Exploring Every Age

It is a common misconception that our day to day life is run by the person we are here and now, at this exact age, with all of our experiences up until this moment. This is partly true, but our life is not a one man show. Rather, it is a collaboration of every person you have ever been, at every age. Whether this be the person you were yesterday, or at conception. Each version of ourself has a voice and is useful to understanding why we view the world through a certain lens. To explore these other versions, Hypnotherapy uses a technique called regression.

Regression is typically done in a relaxed theta brain wave state, allowing our subconscious to easily retrieve these memories without the criticism of the thinking conscious mind.

Many people may ask about the accuracy of these memories and whether they really happened. This is a valid question and as a hypnotherapist, my answer is that it is of utmost importance that I am not leading the client and suggesting details that the client hasn’t stated themselves. Meaning, I cannot tell the client to go back to when so and so did this or that. Therefore, if the client reaches these conclusions themselves, are having emotional release, and achieving the results they seek, does it really matter?

Every stage of life holds its own key to understanding how we view the world. Each of these keys are memories that hold their own emotional and energetic signature that we hold in our body and energy field. These energetic signatures has its own beliefs, that could be understood as contracts we hold with ourself.

If we have a memory where we created the feeling of unworthiness to survive in the world, chances are, we will continue to hold that view about ourself until we identify it and release it. What is even more interesting is that we can absorb other people’s perceptions and make it our own, especially during childhood.

Regression allows us to explore the exact moment we begin to believe limiting beliefs and rewrite or release them so they can serve our highest good.

Releasing these beliefs can look different for every client during each session. Some clients may be very vocal and emotionally expressive in their discoveries, where others may seem expressionless. A full spectrum of emotions, meaning all of them or none, is possible.

It is important the hypnotherapist continues to stay confident in their ability to guide the client without attaching to expectations of how they believe the client should process their events. On the flip side, many events the clients experience may come as a surprise to the client, leading them to doubt themselves.

This means it is equally important that the hypnotherapist helps the client to release all expectations for how they should experience their session and provide them a safe space to do so.
